Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze paid an official visit to Baku within the framework of Georgia-Azerbaijan strategic, good-neighborly relations and deepening future prospects. On July 13, he met with the head of the Baku executive power, Eldar Azizov. They discussed future plans and highlighted the long-standing interrelationship. We would like to remind you that the partnership between Tbilisi and Baku dates back to 1997. During the visit, a memorandum of twinning of the capitals was signed, which in itself implies the strengthening and deepening of cooperation between the countries. Tbilisi has signed similar memoranda with 20 countries so far, and Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, has been added to their number.
“Today, relations between the countries are developing in many areas. “Bilateral visits create new opportunities for further development of our relations” said Eldar Azizov.
During the visit, Kakha Kaladze also met with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev. Among other important issues discussed, both sides expressed satisfaction with the signed memorandum, in their forecast, this fact will develop relations between the cities in many directions.
“Brotherly relations have always existed between our countries and peoples, and this time, the twinning of our capitals is a natural continuation of our brotherhood. There are many beautiful cities in the world, but Baku and Tbilisi are distinguished by their characteristic beauty and culture, with a great deal of attention paid to historical monuments. “I know that you are making great efforts for the betterment of Tbilisi, as well as for the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia,” Ilham Aliyev said.
The memorandum provides for multilateral cooperation, exchange of information and sharing of practices in a number of areas, such as culture, art, sports, transportation, environment, waste management, urban planning, etc.
Kakha Kaladze evaluates the two-day visit as fruitful and names the memorandum as an important event.
“An important agreement was signed. Baku and Tbilisi are sister cities from today, however, the two countries have always had brotherly and friendly relations. Azerbaijan is a friendly country for me personally, I have many friends here. I have often visited your capital as the Minister of Energy and as I see it, it is becoming more beautiful day by day. I want to thank you for the excellent hospitality”, said Kakha Kaladze.
